The UK government has decided to take new measures to limit Russia's revenue from the sale and transportation of oil. These restrictions target Russia's 'shadow fleet', which is used for the covert export of oil. Specifically, limitations have been imposed on 135 oil tankers that have transported oil worth over $24 billion since the beginning of 2024. The new sanctions also affect two companies that own these tankers, one of which is linked to 'Lukoil'.The UK government is confident that these measures will help combat Putin's 'shadow fleet' and deplete the Russian economy. They also emphasized that sanctions from Western countries have already led to a one-third decrease in Russia's revenue from oil and gas sales since 2022. Furthermore, the UK has previously imposed sanctions on Russian spies and hackers known for the attack on Mariupol.Ukraine and Western countries continue to ramp up economic pressure on Russia due to its aggressive policies, using various sectors of sanctions to influence the Russian leadership.
