Ban on driving a car: at what age will you have to give up the wheel.

Mandatory medical tests for drivers over 65 years old under consideration by the Ukrainian parliament
The Ukrainian parliament is reviewing bill No. 8082, which proposes the introduction of mandatory medical and psychological tests for drivers who have reached the age of 65. This means that elderly drivers will be required to undergo additional medical examinations to continue holding their driving licenses. Drivers aged 70 and 75 will also be subjected to more frequent checks.
The necessity of such measures is explained by the increasing number of traffic accidents involving elderly drivers. As people age, reaction Time deteriorates, vision decreases, and cognitive functions decline, which can negatively affect their ability to respond adequately to the traffic situation.
The European experience shows the effectiveness of such measures
In EU countries, a system of regular cognitive ability testing for drivers over 65 years old is already being implemented. Experts are discussing the possibility of conducting annual checks after reaching a certain age. Doctor Ingrid Denshel emphasizes the importance of individual assessment of each driver's physical and psychological state, while road safety specialist Siegfried Brockmann believes that mandatory checks should be conducted after the age of 75. Psychologist Katya Shlyainits stresses the importance of combining driving experience with regular medical control.
In Ukraine, there are minimal age requirements for obtaining a driver's license, but there is currently no upper age limit.
The Ukrainian parliament is considering a bill on mandatory medical tests for drivers over the age of 65, which could improve road safety and help avoid potential traffic accidents involving elderly motorists.
