Vegetables bite, eggs delight: how prices for popular products have changed.


Prices for vegetables and eggs rose in May
Supermarkets have set new prices for vegetables and chicken eggs in May, as evidenced by data from the Minfin portal. Ukrainian consumers, who buy staple food items daily, remain loyal to basic assortments. Potatoes, garlic, and eggs remain among the most demanded goods in shopping baskets, as they are used to prepare many dishes.
Potatoes
Prices for potatoes vary depending on the variety. Regular potatoes cost an average of 37 hryvnias per kilogram. Young potatoes are valued at an average of 89.93 hryvnias per kilogram, while pink potatoes have an average price of 41.04 hryvnias per kilogram. It is noticeable that there has been a general increase in potato prices compared to April this year.
“If a month ago regular potatoes cost 32.28 hryvnias, young potatoes - 42.60 hryvnias, and pink - 37.81 hryvnias per kilogram.”
Garlic
Regular garlic costs an average of 181 hryvnias per kilogram in May, while young garlic is somewhat cheaper at an average of 117.80 hryvnias per kilogram. Garlic prices have increased slightly compared to April, which may indicate market stabilization and an increase in the supply of young garlic.
“Regular garlic rose in price from 173.46 to 181 hryvnias, while young costs an average of 117.80 hryvnias per kilogram.”
Eggs
Prices for chicken eggs remain stable with slight variations, averaging also 67.90 hryvnias per pack of 10. Compared to April, the prices for eggs have become slightly cheaper, which is a positive signal for consumers.
“A pack of Kvochek for 10 pieces cost 73.80 hryvnias against the current 67.90 hryvnias, Yasensvit for 10 pieces - 73.40 against 73.53 hryvnias.”
It should be noted that prices for kefir and milk rose in May.
Analyzing the indicated prices, one can conclude that the cost of basic food products is rising, which may affect the family budget of Ukrainians. In such conditions, it is important to choose optimal alternatives and keep expenses in check, paying attention to the pricing policies of different chains and producers.
