The exhumation work on the Hill of Glory in Lviv is nearly complete - 90%, but there are still two weeks of work left. The process of uncovering remains is underway at four mass graves and over 250 individual burials at this memorial site, where the graves of two NKVD agents, Mykola Kuznetsov and Major Stepan Putin, were also identified. This information was released by the Lviv City Council based on data from
Glavkom.
The process of researching and relocating remains
Currently, 299 remains have been found, but there are still two mass graves and several burials left. The exhumation and research work started on May 1 and is being conducted by the Memorial Search Center 'Dolia' with the permission of the Ministry of Culture. All found remains and gravestones will be transferred to the Holoski Cemetery.
Future plans and actions
Two entrance columns at the memorial have been dismantled, and the metal garlands along with the 'eternal flame' structure will be handed over to the 'Territory of Terror' museum. After the completion of the exhumation and geological studies, a decision will be made regarding the further arrangement of the memorial based on consultations with the public.
Thanks to the continuation of exhumation and research work on the Hill of Glory in Lviv, the historical truth about the tragic events of the past has a chance to be restored and honored, and the memory of the victims of totalitarian regimes preserved for future generations.
