Yuri Previtali: an Italian who decided to defend Ukraine

29-year-old Italian Yuri Previtali decided to join the hostilities in Ukraine without any military experience. Arriving in Lviv in 2023, he joined the 'Carpathian Sich' Legion and helps defend the country from Russian invaders alongside Ukrainian fighters.

«I have been following the war in Ukraine since 2014, and when the full-scale invasion began, I couldn't remain indifferent. I heard that there was a recruitment for a battalion of foreigners who could come to defend Ukraine alongside Ukrainian fighters, and in 2023 I arrived in Lviv. I went to recruitment centers, showed my Italian passport, said that I am Italian and want to defend Ukraine,» said Yuri Previtali.

Yuri helped to enter the assault battalion 'Carpathian Sich' and went to the front. His parents initially did not know about his decision but now support him. The thought of dying in the hands of another fighter also lingers in his memory, but after his leave, he plans to return to the front.
