EU faces challenges in sanctions against Russian LNG.

The European Union needs a system to track the imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia to avoid bypassing sanctions.
Such a statement was made by Belgium's Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten.
We continue to call for full implementation of the Versailles Declaration [adopted in 2022], which proposes a complete phase-out of Russian fossil fuels
Van der Straeten acknowledged that the EU has encountered difficulties in implementing the 14th package of anti-Russian sanctions concerning Russian LNG.
We have faced difficulties with its implementation. We call for a system to track Russian LNG, as well as a coordinated approach from the European Commission to assist member states that import LNG, so that these sanctions are effective and we can stop fueling the Russian war machine
Belgium's Energy Minister emphasized that the issue of a complete phase-out of liquefied Russian gas is within the competence of foreign ministers and heads of state.
